Vintage Patek Philippe Ref.650J "Flying Saucer" Pocket Watch
The ref. 650 was in the Patek Philippe catalogue from 1937 to 1960, with different decoration on the back, different dials, and variations with two or three hands, and as “Joaillerie” watches as well.
It is known to exist in yellow gold, pink gold and in platinum (named 650, 650-1, 650-2, 650-3, etc.). This pocket watch from Patek Philippe is one of the many trademark 2-tone dial watches we collect.
The simple ref. 650J or 650R retailed in 1944 for SF 1’100, compared to a regular pocket watch ref. 651J for SF 710. So it was the luxury and the extra flat version. In total not even a hundred watches were made.
Today, 2 ref. 650J and 3 ref. 650R were identified from the market, 1 ref. 650-1J, 1 ref. 650-1R, 1 ref. 650-1R with enamel decoration, 1 ref. 650-2P with diamonds and 1 ref. 650-3R with enamel decoration.
An Extract of Archives dated 2020 confirms that the watch was made in 1938 and sold in 1940 with gilt dial and raised hours markers.
